CTIA Recon Analytics Report Response

Digital Global Systems (DGS), an innovator and leader in RF awareness technology, has spent several years focused on the issues of spectrum crowding and spectrum optimization. A recent Recon Analytics report that was commissioned by CTIA (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/cbrs-sharing-falls-short-of-expectations-carries-high-opportunity-cost-new-study-shows-301677052.html) highlights the deficiencies of CBRS for spectrum sharing, to the point of stating that CBRS is unusable and that dedicated, licensed spectrum is the only solution.

It is important to highlight that lightly licensed, low-cost spectrum is an effective complement to exclusive licensing approaches. Innovations supporting spectrum sharing are fundamental to U.S. leadership in spectrum policy. CBRS is an important element of this leadership because it has provided live deployments highlighting both the benefits and challenges.

DGS acknowledges that there are deficiencies with CBRS, specifically in terms of scalability, interference management, and exclusive reliance on static propagation models for spectrum access. However, we counter that CBRS can scale to support large numbers of users and overcome current deficiencies with the addition of real-time analysis of the RF environment, providing interference management and spectrum efficiency feedback to network components.

Multiple sources have responded to the report highlighting the successes of CBRS and its importance in accelerating private wireless applications in the U.S. The OnGo Alliance, through its member companies, is continuing to improve the effectiveness and operational simplicity of CBRS, leveraging feedback from deployments. Through its expertise in interference management and spectrum efficiency, DGS is providing direct input to these initiatives at the OnGo Alliance and expects the Alliance to address scalability challenges that will secure and accelerate growth projections.

About DGS

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in northern Virginia, DGS blends broad experience and deep expertise in the fields of spectrum monitoring, telecommunications, critical infrastructure protection, and defense.

DGS has been awarded approximately 100 patents with 25 patents pending for the advancement of spectrum monitoring and RF data management, enabling the capture and analysis of wideband spectrum data at the point of intercept for applications that deliver real-time situational awareness.
