CTIA Recon Analytics Report Response

A recent Recon Analytics report that was commissioned by CTIA (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/cbrs-sharing-falls-short-of-expectations-carries-high-opportunity-cost-new-study-shows-301677052.html) highlights the deficiencies of CBRS for spectrum sharing, to the point of stating that CBRS is unusable and that dedicated, licensed spectrum is the only solution.

It is important to highlight that lightly licensed, low-cost spectrum is an effective complement to exclusive licensing approaches. Innovations supporting spectrum sharing are fundamental to U.S. leadership in spectrum policy. CBRS is an important element of this leadership because it has provided live deployments highlighting both the benefits and challenges.

DGS acknowledges that there are deficiencies with CBRS, specifically in terms of scalability, interference management, and exclusive reliance on static propagation models for spectrum access. However, we counter that CBRS can scale to support large numbers of users and overcome current deficiencies with the addition of real-time analysis of the RF environment, providing interference management and spectrum efficiency feedback to network components.
