General setup and administration of systems, networks, and software for an R&D environment. This includes software (Windows, MS Office, Atlassian tools, Bitbucket, etc.) and hardware (switches, servers, PCs, laptops, etc.). Environment is a Linux development shop, but Windows is used for Microsoft Office, etc.
Assist in managing and maintaining a network of hosted servers (AWS)
Plan and perform approved, scheduled and emergency maintenance.
Respond to escalated incidents and engage vendors as necessary. Identify, track and resolve associated problems.
Adhere to all security guidelines and ensure that systems are properly protected with working backups; ensure all others with access are doing the same (e.g., double authentication for email and setup of VPNs)
Interact with vendors, provide feedback on their products, and help select which products the company will use.
Maintain records of system configurations and connectivity.
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
Understanding of networking principles and experience establishing an IP network (and VLANs within the network)
Experience with firewalls, wireless router setup and maintenance.
Proficient with Windows/Linux systems
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Able to take minimal direction and work independently
An exceptional troubleshooter.
Ability to go in the lab and make things work.
